SF calls for ‘greater financial assistance’ for Gort Family Resource Centre

Sinn Féin president, Mary Lou McDonald, met staff and volunteers at the GFRC during her recent visit to Gort

Gort Family Resource Centre deserves “greater financial assistance” from the Government for the “vital services” it provides, particularly for “vulnerable and marginalised people”.

This is the view of Galway East Sinn Féin representative, Louis O’Hara, who was speaking following Sinn Féin president, Mary Lou McDonald’s recent visit to Gort. During the visit, Dep McDonald met volunteers and staff at the GFRC.

“GFRC provides a wide range of supports and services from cradle to grave, such as education and training, domestic abuse support services, homework clubs, and counselling to name,” said Mr O’Hara. “It has a very wide catchment area, covering a large part of south Galway. As a result the centre is extremely busy and supports thousands of people on a yearly basis.”

Mr O’Hara has called for “greater financial assistance” from the Government to allow the centre to recruit a third staff member, which would make an “enormous difference in terms of the services” the centre provides.
