Legendary Gaelic footballers launch journal

A new book entitled Our Field of Dreams features the stories of more than 70 greats of the Gaelic game from across the 32 counties, including cross channel clubs and associations

Galway is strongly represented throughout its pages, including Professor Martin Newell, the ‘maestro’ Sean Purcell, Gay McManus, the great John Keenan from the famous Dunmore Club, All-Ireland winning medallist with Galway Ladies in 2004 Geraldine Conneally, legendary referee Mick Curley, and journalist and broadcaster Jim Carney.

All share their reminiscences and reflections in this special book which was compiled by Galway resident and freelance correspondent Tom Curley.

The book was launched recently in Athlone where the special guest of the evening was Dr Con Murphy, former chairman of Cork County Board and current president.

Launching the book, Irish Independent sports journalist and author, Martin Breheny, was high in his praise of Tom Curley for his "initiative and flair in putting together this excellent publication", which he described as a valuable record of GAA history that should be stored and passed on to the young generation of players.

Mr. Breheny, in complimenting the former stars – a number of whom he interviewed – expressed a wish that the book would reach the shelves of the Croke Park Museum.
