The elegant new 2022 model-year Range Rover has been launched, and for the first time, it will be available as a plug-in hybrid and with seven seat capability.
Land Rover says it defines modern luxury, providing more refinement, customer choice, and scope for personalisation than ever before.
It says it is offered with a choice of efficient mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, as well as with a pure-electric version which is set to join the line-up in 2024. The first hybrid version, combines a three-litre straight-six turbocharged petrol engine with a 38.2kWh battery and a 141bhp electric motor. This promises a combined output of 434bhp and 620Nm of torque.
The second combines another three-litre petrol unit with a similar battery and electric motor, and delivers a higher promised combined output to 503bhp and 700Nm of torque.
The latter promises performance figures of 5.7 seconds from 0-100km/h. A top speed of 140km/h is claimed in the car’s electric driving mode.
There are also the options of three-litre petrol mild hybrid and two diesel engines. A 3.0-litre straight-six-engined D300 and D350 model offer 296bhp and 345bhp respectively, with up to 37.2mpg possible and CO2 emissions from 198g/km.
A new 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol unit, offering 523bhp and 750Nm of torque is the flagship.
All powertrains are married to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and Land Rover’s four-wheel drive system with Terrain Response 2 tech. A new intelligent all-wheel drive system can decouple the front axle on-road between 21mph and 100mph to improve efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 4g/km.
Another first for Range Rover is that there will now be a choice of four, five or seven-seat interiors available across standard and long wheelbase body designs.
Land Rover’s new flexible modular longitudinal architecture, MLA-Flex debuts here, underpinning this luxury SUV. Combustion-engined powertrains, plug-in hybrid tech, and fully electric propulsion can be accommodated with this new platform allows for pure.
The company says that by combining state-of-the-art engineering techniques with new levels of virtual development and Land Rover’s punishing development programme, the new Range Rover will deliver new levels of quality.
Land Rover claims a pair of innovative extended range plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV ) powertrains provide CO2 emissions below 30g/km, with an electric driving range of up to 100km, delivering an expected real-world range of up to 80km. It says that is enough for typical Range Rover customers to complete up to 75 per cent of trips using electric power only.
The new luxury SUV will be available in SE, HSE and Autobiography models. A First Edition will be available throughout the first year of production, based on the Autobiography and featuring a unique specification. It is exclusively available in a 'Sunset Gold Satin' finish, among a choice of five exterior colours. Both standard (SWB ) or long wheelbase (LWB ) body designs are available with five seats, while the new Range Rover LWB model is available with a third row for extended comfort for up to seven adults.
The new Range Rover SV will also be available. It is a luxurious and personalised version from the experts at its special vehicle operations.
