More than €90,000 in funding for Galway LGBT+ services

Funding to provide support for new projects from Amach! LGBT+ Galway and Galway Autism Partnership

Community organisations providing LGBT+ services in Galway were awarded Government funding of more than €90,000 this week as part of the National LGBTI+ Inclusion Strategy.

Amach! LGBT+ Galway will receive €84,667 for its COMHIONANNAS: Galway LGBTI+ Community Achieving Equality project, while Galway Autism Partnership has been allocated €5,865 for its Stim and Shine project.

The grants will support the development of rural community infrastructure that will be inclusive and welcoming of LGBT+ persons, address gaps in LGBT+ services, and support existing community organisations.

The funding has been welcomed by Fine Gael Galway West TD and Minister of State, Hildegarde Naughton. She said it was especially important when “many people have felt disconnected from their communities over the past two years”.

“These funding grants will improve access to services for LGBTI+ people, and is part of the Government’s stated commitment to build a fairer and more inclusive society,” she said. “These projects will seek to support and reach out to members of the LGBT+ community regardless of where they live, and I’m confident that this will make a substantial positive difference to the lives of many.”
