Artwork by Young Travellers on display at Galway City Library

Exhibition by Martina Passman and Traveller youth to run throughout the rest of November

AN EXHIBITION by youths from the Traveller Community in Tuam is being shown alongside work by artist Martina Passman at the Galway City Library.

A graduate of GMIT Fine Art and Design, Martina Passman later became a member of Artspace Studios. Works by her are part of the Irish State art collection. For this show in the library, etchings inspired by Galway city life and floral oil paintings will be on display.

Passman is also an arts facilitator and recently conducted an art workshop with young people from the Traveller Community in Tuam. Their work was exhibited in Tuam Town Hall and is now on show at the Galway City Library.

“I feel theirs is an important body of work, with an important message, and should be seen,” said Passman. “The brief we were given for this project by Tüsla, was titled 'About Me'. After some discussion with the youths, covering many topics, including young Traveller’s place in society, their dreams and aspirations, and their challenges as members of the Traveller community, this exhibition was a result of those conversations.

The is open to the public until Monday November 29. See also martinapassmanart.com
