Renowned Irish artist Harrie McManus will hold a three-day exhibition of her paintings at Conneely Framing Corner, Carnmore, from Saturday November 20 to Monday November 22.
McManus moved to Galway from Dublin in 2017 and this will be the second exhibition of her work in her adopted home.
“I swore that my last exhibition would be just that … my last,” she says. “But a year-and-a-half of lockdowns can weaken anyone’s resolve. I turned 80 during the first lockdown, so I celebrated by putting paint to canvas.”
The new exhibition includes more than 40 oil paintings, mostly still lifes and landscapes. She has also included a number of pastels, however, a rare treat for her collectors.
“I’ve already had quite a few enquiries,” she says. “And we haven’t even hung the exhibition yet.”
Harrie McManus is a veteran of the Irish art scene. An honorary life member of the United Arts Club in Dublin, she has exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy and in the National Portrait Exhibition. Her paintings are in private collections around the globe.
Originally from Dublin, she has taught generations of budding artists to draw and paint, first as the art teacher in Sutton Park School and Holy Faith School, Killester, then as RTÉ Artist in Residence on Live At 3 and P.M. Live for almost a decade.
Her new work will be on show from 10am to 5pm, Saturday November 22 to Monday November 24. The exhibition will be officially opened by Hildegarde Naughton, TD on Saturday, November 23 at 4pm.
Conneely Framing Corner is located at Conneely Flooring & Carpentry, Carnmore, Oranmore, Galway H91 Y026, telephone 091 787 008.
