Aldi is adding to its Galway portfolio with a new store in Mountbellew.
Work has commenced on the construction of the store which will employ 30 new permanent staff when it opens next year.
Aldi says it has invested €7 million in the development on the College Road site in Mountbellew. This includes building an environmentally friendly store which will be powered by 100 per cent renewable electricity and will be constructed in Aldi’s Project Fresh design.
The 1,315sqm store will feature 120 car parking spaces and 10 bike parking spaces, and Aldi says it will also be investing in the future of Mountbellew through the provision of four electric vehicle charging points.
The store is part of a larger development being built by Galway-based Cahermorris Developments which includes a filling station and residential development.
Aldi regional managing director Colin Breslin says the store will also provide further opportunities for local food and drink producers to work with Aldi. He says last year, it sourced €28 million of locally produced food and drink from its Co Galway based suppliers.
Aldi currently operate nine stores in County Galway and has recently received planning permission for a store on Old Monivea Road, Ballybrit, opening in autumn 2023.
