Galway United defeated Shamrock Rovers at Lissywollen

Another vibrant display ensured Galway United U14s gleaned the national league title following a fine win over Shamrock Rovers at Lissywollen on Saturday evening.

Xavi Vazquez's accomplished outfit mined goals in either half courtesy of Denis Sirbu and Kyle Fitzgerald to beat a well regarded Rovers.

It has been a remarkable campaign for United, who have finished the campaign with a real flourish perfectly illustrated by splendid victories in the knockout stages.

The manner in which United overcame St Patrick's Athletic, Cobh Ramblers, and the Hoops showcased the spirit and style that this team has demonstrated throughout the campaign.

Sirbu's early goal provided United with an encouraging start with Fitzgerald and Donnacha Sammon also prominent.

Goalkeepers MacDara Scanlon and Jason Daly, who played a half each, made saves when required to ensure United led in the closing stages.

Centre halves Billy Regan and Tommy Lillis stayed cool and composed enabling United to add an insurance goal in the dying embers of a high quality encounter.

It was all about Fitzgerald's speed and skill as United pounced to seal the deal.

Brendan O'Connor's United U19s lost 3-1 to Shelbourne with Charlie Concannon grabbing his seventh goal of the season.
