A pre-Advent concert from Resurgam

Leading vocal ensemble appoint Lyric FM’s Vlad Smishkewych as new general manager

GALWAY VOCAL ensemble, Resurgam, the premiere project-based professional choir in Ireland, will perform a pre-Advent concert in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church.

Resurgam, directed by Mark Duley, along with Vespera, Galway's new baroque string band, will perform an Abendmusik concert - entitled Light of Midnight - on Sunday November 21, where they will be joined by the choristers of St Nicholas’ Schola Cantorum.

Vespera are led by renowned baroque specialist Claire Duff, and the group itself comprises world-class string players who have made their home in and around Galway.

The programme is built around cantatas by Bach and Dietrich Buxtehude, and seasonally and liturgically appropriate for the Sunday before Advent. Woven into the programme will be motets by Hammerschmidt, Purcell, Handl, Schütz, Praetorius, and Scheidt.

Resurgam also recently announced Lyric FM broadcaster, Wolodymyr (Vlad ) Smishkewych [pictured below], as the group’s new general manager, as current manager, Lucy Hayward O’Leary, will be departing the role at the end of November to concentrate on the professional string orchestra, Luminosa, which she co-founded in 2018.

“We're very fortunate in Ireland to have someone of Vlad's experience and knowledge living here and doing so much to enhance our cultural life, especially in the field of early music,” said Resurgam artistic director, Mark Duley.

For his part, Mr Smishkewych said: “Resurgam is an ensemble with which I have had the honour to perform, and which I have admired as it has gone from strength to strength in these last years. I am very excited to help guide the group into a new phase in the coming years, as it takes its rightful place on the international stage as a first-class Irish ensemble.”

Tickets are from €15 at Eventbrite and www.resurgam.ie/events
