United win again

John Caulfield's team defeated Wexford at Eamonn Deacy Park

GALWAY UNITED 2 WEXFORD FC 1

These are encouraging times for Galway United, who claimed a third SSE Airtricity League first division victory in a row at Eamonn Deacy Park.

Despite the second half dismissal of Maurice Nugent, United still managed to fend off Wexford's spirited challenge.

An eventful opening period unfolded at the Corribside venue with United scoring early.

Conor McCormack's splendid corner kick located Stephen Walsh, who headed John Caulfield's team ahead.

Shane Doherty forced Jimmy Corcoran to make a smart save as United continued to probe.

Wexford had opportunities, too, though as Conor Kearns had to be alert thwarting Jack Doherty and Jack Moylan.

United pounced for a second goal in the 37 minute as Ruairi Keating delivery enabled David Hurley to score.

Ian Ryan's Wexford replied on 40 as Moylan netted following Daniel Dobbin's cross.

Seven minutes after the restart Maurice Nugent was sent off for a second bookable offence. Increasing in belief and generating momentum, United held out.
