Race in Pink for Breast Cancer returns to Ballybrit

Race in Pink, one of the highlights of the Galway Races October Festival, is returning this year to Ballybrit.

The event, which has traditionally been held in support of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute, will take place on Sunday October 24.

Once again the team at the Galway Racecourse has put together a hospitality package to ensure guests experience the ultimate day at the races. In addition to watching the action from the iconic Killanin Stand, they will enjoy a drinks reception followed by a four-course lunch with wine.

As always there will be plenty of entertainment with prizes galore, plus a best dressed competition for ladies and gents, sponsored Anthony Ryans.

As part of the day the draw will also take place for the charity’s annual ‘Win a BMW’ fundraiser while a celebrity tipster will help punters be a “winner all right”.

The Irish charity, which raises funds in support of breast cancer research, is led by Professor Michael Kerin, who says the research team at the Lambe Institute is "delighted with the support from the Galway Race Committee and the opportunity to raise funds at this great event".

"We are also deeply grateful to our sponsors, volunteers and the enormous community support and goodwill, which make events like this successful.

Racing, community, family and fun

"Research outputs are at the epicentre of all cancer programmes and at NUI Galway, the breast cancer research programme at the Lambe Institute supports a large bio bank, molecular research lab, clinical trials programme and new technology development."

These programmes, he says, lead to better outcomes and could not happen without events like Race in Pink .

Galway Racecourse CEO Michael Moloney says as October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, the event and helping raise much-needed funds for the charity is very important.

"I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone for their support this year, we’ve greatly appreciated it. Galway Racecourse holds a very special place in people’s hearts, and we’ve never heard it more that the last year, so thank you.

"Our brand values of the love of horse racing, friendships, community, family and fun, feed every decision we make and the things we do here in Ballybrit. We are delighted to now present our three-day October Festival to all our supporters and race goers. We’re looking forward to some cracking racing and our passion project, the ‘Race in Pink’ day’. Lots to look forward to!”.
