What should Galway look like bvy the year 2050? What kind of city do we want to be living in by then? These are key questions in the Galway Chamber’s Vision 2050 consultation process.
The chamber is seeking the views of the public, and over the next two months, Galwegians will have the opportunity to submit their views. The process will also support the Galway City Council’s Local Economic and Community Plan.
The public consultation was formally launched by Minister of State, Hildegarde Naughton, during an event organised by Galway Chamber in the Hardiman Hotel.
.
The event also saw the Chamber unveil a panoramic visualisation of what Galway might look like in 2050. The visualisation was created by architect Brett Mahon and was produced in partnership with Architecture on the Edge. It includes projects already in the pipeline or mooted to proceed in the coming years. It is hoped this will act as an aide to stimulate public discourse and encourage further submissions.
The visualisation and the draft vision will be available for public viewings in the Galway Chamber offices, Merchants Road, for the next two months.
A video has also been produced as part of the consultation process. It was developed by Galway Chamber in collaboration with Gaillimh le Gaeilge and Galway Technology Centre.
The chamber has also worked with the Western Development Commission to create a special dashboard that tracks investment in Galway showcasing the capacity of the city and region to deliver.

“The future of Galway will be determined by the people of Galway,” said Galway Chamber chief executive, Kenny Deery. “Galway Chamber fully believes Galway can become one of the best destinations to live, work, and visit in Europe. For that to be achieved, it will involve many stakeholders and ongoing collaboration and engagement. That is why we want as many people as possible to take part in Vision 2050.”
