The prolific Enda Curran (2 ), Johnny Hannafin, Hakeem Ryan, and Aaron Molloy all scored for Mervue, who overpowered a gutsy Loughrea outfit 5-2. Kieran Bane struck twice for Loughrea, who are in FAI Junior Cup action against Maree/Oranmore this weekend.
Adam Duffy contributed the only goal of a tight game as Athenry fended off St Bernard's spirited challenge.
Stephen Walsh's Galway Hibernians produced a fine display to beat Corrib Rangers at Bohermore. Dean Cullinane, Shane Walsh, Jay McPhilbin, Jason McDonagh, and Alex Murphy clipped goals for Hibs.
Unfortunate in a number of fixtures so far, Colemanstown earned a first success of the campaign defeating Corrib Celtic 2-1. Kerrill Hardiman and Ryan Noone scored for Colemanstown with Shane Concannon summoning a response for Corrib Celtic.
A team showing real signs of improvement, Maree-Oranmore, triumphed away to Tuam Celtic. Luke Smyth, Andrew Connolly, and Princewell Diala struck goals for Maree-Oranmore.
Sunday's meeting between St Bernard's and Colemanstown will be a revealing fixture. Bernard's commenced the season impressively and were defiant against Athenry, but Colemanstown should provide a stern test in Abbeyknockmoy.
