Junior season continues

Another busy weekend beckons

Enda Curran brought his seasonal account to nine goals in five matches as Mervue United moved to the top of the Galway FA premier division table following Saturday’s win over Tuam Celtic.

The prolific Curran struck a brace for Noel McDonnell’s charges, who chalked up a fourth win a row to edge ahead of Salthill Devon.

It maintains Mervue’s impressive form since the opening weekend of the campaign loss to Devon, who currently lie in second place.

Victor Collins’ outfit were involved in a dramatic 2-2 draw against Corrib Celtic in Annaghdown on Sunday morning. Keith Greaney and Ciaran Nugent scored for Celtic, with Darren Creaven and Rory Brennan supplying Salthill’s goals.

At the Westside Corrib Rangers and Loughrea divided the spoils with both teams facing important fixtures next weekend.

Rangers, managed by Jimmy Jennings, make the short trip to Bohermore for a clash against Stephen Walsh’s Galway Hibernians on Saturday afternoon, while Mervue host Loughrea.

On Friday evening, Tuam Celtic, buoyed up by an FAI Junior Cup triumph over West United, face Maree/Oranmore.

Colemanstown will be hoping to get off the mark against Corrib Celtic, who have delivered some defiant displays to accumulate four points already.

Athenry, who have won their three fixtures, are away to St Bernard’s in Abbeyknockmoy on Sunday morning.
