Galway Rape Crisis Centre and BeLonG To Youth Services will be the charities that are set to benefit from this year’s NUI Galway Students’ Union Charity Challenge.
Each month students and staff will be taking part in different challenges to raise funds for the charities. Galway Rape Crisis Centre is dedicated to providing a professional, caring, and confidential counselling and support service for those affected by sexual abuse and sexual violence. BeLonG To work to help young LGBTI+ people be equal, safe, and valued in the diversity of their identities and experiences.

“Many NUIG students have been part of our volunteer fundraising team in the past,” said Cathy Connolly, executive director of the Galway Rape Crisis Centre, “and we are ever grateful for the continued support of NUI Galway Students’ Union. This funding will be used to offer counselling to our crisis clients and reduce our waiting list.”
Moninne Griffith, CEO of BeLonG To said demand for its support services rose by 113 per cent over the past year. “Support from this initiative will help us to strengthen our impact,” she said, “and fulfil our mission of creating an Ireland where LGBTI+ young people can be who they are, and love who they love, without experiencing hate and discrimination."
