Ruairi Keating's 25th minute goal ensured Galway United departed from St Colman's Park armed with the full complement of SSE Airtricity League first division spoils.

John Caulfield's outfit hit the front when Keating scored following Conor McCormack's corner which caused panic in the Cobh area.

Following Keating's intervention United crafted a string of opportunities against a youthful Cobh Ramblers side.

In the 61st minute United were awarded a penalty when John Kavanagh fouled Wilson Waweru in the area. From the resultant spot kick Keating rifled over the bar.

Cobh were reduced to 10 men in the 83rd minute when Regix Madika was sent off for a second bookable offence.

United survived one goalmouth scramble before substitutes Colin Kelly, Shane Doherty, and Padraic Cunningham went close.

Cobh's Nathan O'Connell was red carded in stoppage time as United continued to dominate. Ultimately, Keating landed the blow that mattered.
