There is no stop sign on the Cappagh Road leading onto the Barna Road junction because it was knocked down in an accident, and accidents on this road are far too frequent.
This is the view of Fine Gael Galway City West candidate Hildegarde Naughton. She says Cappagh Road residents are concerned about the frequency of accidents on the Cappagh Road leading onto the Barna Road junction
“Cars approaching the junction often fail to observe the sharp corner in time and veer onto the green area in the direction of the Barna Road,” she said. “There is currently no stop sign at the junction because it was knocked down in a previous accident.”
She also said that cars which veer onto the green area at the junction have “nothing to stop them from travelling into the path of oncoming traffic” on the main Barna Road.
Ms Naughton said it is “imperative” that this stop sign be replaced before a serious accident occurs.
