Galway WFC face a difficult WNL assignment on Saturday away to in form Wexford Youths at Ferrycarrig Park (6.30pm ).
Wexford, unbeaten since losing on the opening weekend of the campaign to Peamount United, remain very much involved in the title race.
Stephen Lally's improving Galway side defeated Treaty United 1-0 at Eamonn Deacy Park with the dynamic Emma Starr contributing a splendid goal.
"She is phenomenal, in fairness to her, she pops up everywhere, gets on the ball a lot for us," Lally says about American midfielder Starr. "She is great at closing down people, she is working tremendously for us."
Galway crafted several opportunities, but did not score until Starr's important second half intervention.
"When we went in at half-time we spoke about keeping doing the right things," Lally says. "What happens is in games like that you lose discipline, everyone starts doing the wrong things because they get anxious.
"We were happy to get the three points, we needed the three points. We needed the win, I know it looks like the results have been going well, but in saying that we have not won many games this year. You have to get in a habit of winning, to get us over the line."
Now a trip to Wexford beckons ahead of the FAI Cup semi-final against Shelbourne at Tolka Park on October 9.
"We are playing Wexford this week, they have been absolutely flying," Lally adds. "They lost their first game to Peamount and have not lost since. They scored seven against Athlone, four against Treaty, they have been scoring a lot of goals.
"This is the standard that we have got to reach. The girls feel it themselves, that we are improving every week."
Lally remains encouraged about Galway's development. "It is great," he replies. "Defensively we have been very solid, it is all coming together. That is not just the 11 out on the pitch, it is everybody."
