Creating hope through action was the theme of this year’s World Suicide Prevention Day. ‘Know where to turn’ is one of the key messages as part of this event promoting ways in which to help to create hope in communities.
Getting to know what mental health supports and services are available, and telling more people about them is a very important step in building awareness of where to seek help.
Supported by the HSE, Tusla and Mindspace Mayo, West Be Well has been set up in Galway, Mayo, and Roscommon. One of its aims is to publicise mental health promotion and suicide prevention initiatives in the region.
As part of this work, West Be Well has developed a ‘Numbers If You Need Them’ short flyer setting out mental health supports that are available 24 hours a day (https://www.westbewell.ie/flyer ). It has also produced a wallet-sized card listing a wider range of other mental health supports (https://www.westbewell.ie/walletcard ).
These supports are accessible in lots of different ways including on the phone, by text message, online, and face-to-face. For more information on news and events taking place in the region see www.westbewell.ie
