Let’s Do It Galway, the group responsible for bringing The Volvo Ocean Race to Galway, are asking patrons to plan their travel, as traffic is expected to be very heavy over the festival.
It is expected that traffic will be at its worst during the weekend days of May 23, 24, 30, and 31, and June 1, and 6. No parking will be available at the Race Village and patrons are encouraged to use public transport and park and ride facilities to access the Race Village.
Additional commuter services will be provided by Irish Rail during the event, between Athlone and Galway with stops at Ballinasloe and Athenry.
Further information is available on www.irishrail.ie Galway City Council is implementing a Park and Ride facility to assist in accessing the city during peak times. Galway’s Ballybrit Racecourse will act as a major transport hub to facilitate visitors coming to the Race Village. Park and Ride facilities will be available from 11.30am to 11.00pm on Saturday May 23, and 24, Saturday May 30, and 31, Monday June 1, and Saturday June 6. The bus transfer will be €2 return for adults, which includes parking, children under 16 and OAPs will travel for free. The racecourse can be accessed from the N6 dual-carriageway. All passengers will be brought by bus to Bóthar Páirc an Aonaigh (The Fairgreen ), which is just a minute’s walk from the Race Village at Galway Harbour.
