For the next two weeks Galway is set to enjoy a unique festival to coincide with the stopover of the world’s most prestigious yacht race.
The yachts will be based in the revamped Galway docks, around which a special race village has been established.
The Race Village is located at the harbour area in Galway. This is a free event and there is no entrance charge.All events and concerts are free to attend.
Over the bank holiday weekend Friday May 29 to Monday June 1 the GreenDragon walking route will operate from the race village via Spanish Arch and South Park to Salthill which is the perfect viewing point for watching the Volvo Open 70s compete in Galway Bay. There will be free entertainment along the route including music, circus displays, drumming,m street theatre, sand castles, puppet theatre, and lots lots more
PARK & RIDE
Galway City Council is implementing a Park and Ride facility to assist in accessing the city during peak times. Galway’s Ballybrit Racecourse will act as a major transport hub to facilitate the thousands of visitors coming to the Race Village.
Park and Ride facilities will be available from 11.30 – 23.00 on the following dates: Saturday May 23, Sunday May24 , Saturday May 30, Sunday May 31, Monday June 1, Saturday June 6.
A €2 return bus transfer for adults includes parking.
Children under 16 and OAPs travel for free.
The racecourse can be accessed from the N6 dual-carriageway. All passengers will be brought by bus to Bóthar Páirc an Aonaigh (The Fairgreen ), which is just a minute’s walk from the Race Village at Galway Harbour.

PARKING & TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
May 23 to June 6: Peak periods during the weekends of May 23/24; May 30/31/1; and June 6.
There is no parking available on site. Patrons are encouraged to use public transport and park and ride facilities to access the Race Village. Expect traffic disruption at peak times and weekends, check www.galwayvolvooceanrace.com for details.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Irish Rail provides a regular schedule to Ceannt Station Galway, five minutes from the Race Village.
There will be an additional commuter service operating during the event between Athlone and Galway with stops at Ballinasloe and Athenry.
