Introducing NeighbourFood Clifden - popular online farmers' market comes to Connemara

NeighbourFood, a new and convenient way to buy from local farmers and food producers, is a weekly online farmers' market with almost 50 outlets nationwide. This autumn, the NeighbourFood revolution comes to Connemara, offering the local community easy access to the finest produce from the region.

How does it work?

It could not be more simple - interested customers sign up online via Neighbourfood.ie/Clifden, place their order, then pick it up at the weekly collection point in Clifden. All your items will be packed and ready for collection.

What are the benefits?

Some of the benefits of Neighbourfood.ie/Clifden include:

• You are supporting a more sustainable food system.

• Less food miles and less packaging.

• As small producers grow, you create more jobs in the community.

• With 80 per cent of the retail price going direct to the producer, more of your weekly spend stays locally.

• By supporting small scale production rather than mass production you are helping the planet.

The project is being promoted by Connemara resident Alice Coyle, who will also host the weekly collection days. Ms Coyle, who grew up in the area, recently returned home from Cork where she ran a successful design practice. As well as working for a number of independent food retailers, she also participated in a number of notable projects, including Fab Food Trails Cork, the Food Policy Council, and Cork's English Market. A cook, gardener, and advocate of sustainable food production, she now brings her extensive experience to NeighbourFood Clifden.

Some of the local produce you will be able to buy from NeighbourFood Clifden include sourdough bread from So-Doh! a new micro bakery in Renvyle, fresh lobster and crab from Cleggan fisherman Louis Martin, Morans' award-winning sausages and black pudding, and organic eggs from Oughterard. As NeighbourFood customer numbers grow, and seasons change, so too will the variety of produce on offer.

“I love the ethos behind NeighbourFood,” says Alice Coyle, "supporting local farmers and producers in the area, while also providing convenient access to their goods every week. NeighbourFood Clifden is a community project that will benefit the whole of Connemara, and I can’t wait to welcome people to my little shed every Thursday.”
