Nortel and FCS make Volvo Ocean Race Communications Plain Sailing in Galway

Galway-based telecoms infrastructure provider Nortel has teamed with Flexible Contact Solutions to support the communications needs of Let’s Do It Galway for the Volvo Ocean Race stopover.

The two companies are providing the infrastructure and equipment to deliver communications during the event, ensuring the organisers can rely on secure communications for the biggest sporting event Ireland has hosted since the Ryder Cup.

“The contribution from FCS and Nortel means a great deal to the team in Galway,” says Let’s Do It Galway CEO Mel Morgan. “We are all working together to ensure the Irish team aboard the Green Dragon boat comes home to a champion’s welcome.

“With 140,000 visitors expected between May 23 and June 6,we’ve organised a series of events to mark the stopover in Galway. Now we are confident that we have the communications we need to make sure everyone can take part.”

Mike Rowland, CEO for FCS says the Volvo Ocean Race is putting Galway firmly on the global map so when approached by Nortel with the outline of the project, the company wanted to provide support.

“We are used to delivering 24x7 support for international networks and chose to provide a solution based on the Nortel Communications Server 1000 to ensure reliability, flexibility, and scalability. It’s an honour to be able to provide support for an event that is doing so much to bring the community together.”

Nortel’s proven technology, complemented by FCS professional services, ensures the event will be a success as two companies are providing the latest Nortel technology, delivering a unified communications infrastructure providing a CS1000 platform for 100 users with unified messaging and telephony services.
