Canney welcomes Athenry Fire Station progress

New station will be located at Ballygarraun South and be a 361m² single storey building

Sean Canney Independent TD for Galway East has welcomed the fact that the Part 8 Planning process is now complete, and planning is in place for the new fire station for Athenry.

The next stage includes full design and tender for the building. The new fire station will be located at Ballygarraun South, Athenry.

“Cllr Gabe Cronnelly and I have worked to secure the site and have a design team appointed. The design team have reached a very important stage in the process which planning permission in place,” he said.

The building consists for a 361 m² fire station consisting of a single storey building to accommodate three fire tenders, storage areas, equipment storage, watch room, drying facilities, lecture room, compressor room, workshop, toilet facilities, drill yard, drill tower, refuse area and carparking.

“When complete the building will provide a modern firefighting facility to serve Athenry and the catchment area," said Dep Canney [pictured above]. This is what the residents and fireman deserve,”he said, adding that he commends Cllr Gabe Cronnelly and Galway County Council for their work in helping to bring this important facility to fruition."
