Galway will encourage a new generation of children to get involved in Gaelic games through an innovative initiative by the GAA, and supported by AIB.
The GAA Play & Stay introductory blitzes are aimed at increasing the participation of young people in Gaelic games and will take place in over 530 centres across the 32 counties during the months of May and June, with 24 centres in Galway.
An extension of the Go Games programme, which caters for the varying developmental needs of young players, the GAA Play and Stay introductory blitzes will specifically target children aged between seven and eight for whom this may be their introduction to Gaelic games and a GAA club.
“This initiative currently rolling out in Galway is about opening up GAA to a new audience of young, and increasing the participation of children in all our games,” said Galway’s co-ordinator Tom McManus. “This will get them into a club near where they live, for what will be a fun and relaxed introduction to playing Gaelic football or hurling.
“The club is at the heart of the GAA, and continual club development, including new members, is vital to ensure that the GAA continues to thrive and succeed.”
