2021 Lux Award winner, Collective, to be screened by Galway Film Society

COLLECTIVE, THE 2021 Lux Audience Award winning Romanian documentary will be given a free screening at the Pálás Cinema on Tuesday September 21 at 6pm.

This is a screening from the Galway Film Society. Collective, directed by Alexander Nanau, is titled after a nightclub in Bucharest where a fire killed 27 young people in 2015 and left 180 wounded. The documentary follows a team of journalists who investigate why 37 of the burn victims died in hospitals, although their wounds were not life threatening.

This year, the European Parliament partnered with the European Film Academy, the European Commission (Creative Europe Media ), and Europa Cinemas to bring the newly named LUX Audience Award to a wider audience. Films selected for this competition focus on some of the main social and political issues in Europe.

Collective was also nominated for two Oscars earlier this year, for Best International Feature and for Best Documentary.

.

Collective will be screened simultaneously in 27 European cinemas in partnership with Europa Cinemas, of whose network Galway Film Society is a member of. The film screening will be followed by a live question and answer session streamed from France.

The screening is free but tickets must be booked in advance via 091 - 394800 or visit https://palas.ie
