Cairde trip on Galway Hookers for front-line hospital staff

Fourteen staff from three Galway hospitals were the winners of the free staff draw set up as a big thank you by Cairde Othair na Gaillimhe (Friends of Galway Patients ) to all staff working on the front line during the worst period of stress and pressure in all our lives.

The winners were treated on Saturday to a trip with Badoiri an Cladaig Teoranta, an association set up to train and restore traditional craft in Galway. Peter Connolly and his crew prepared the trip using Manuela, the gleoiteog which featured in the iconic photos of the hookers illuminated in the Claddagh Basin last winter.

The day was started by Galway Town Crier, Liam Silke, who heaped praise on all of the hospital staff for their work and effort during the recent past.

The group then retired to Taylor's Bar and Beer Garden in Dominick Street, which also supports the Galway Hookers.

Cairde Othair na Gaillimhe extends its thanks to everyone who supported and sponsored the day, which was a spectacular success. Those include Tesco, Taylor's Bar, Hooked Seafood, Peter Connolly and the Badoiri team, CMG Claim Management Group, Spectrum Accounting Services, and Liam Silke.

Cairde needs your support to raise funds for some special projects at UHG, Merlin Park Hospital, and Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe.

You can support the group's work by joining its monthly draw at https://cog.ie/lottery.

"The first project we will support is new TV and IT system at the dialysis unit at Merlin Park Hospital for patient use," said a spokesperson.
