Works are being carried out by the Galway City Council at the field adjoining the Fana Glas and Leas na Coille estates in Ballybane.
The field had been the site of “an enormous amount of illegal dumping”, according to local activist, Donal Lynch, who had campaigned for the site to be dealt with.
While Mr Lynch welcomed the works being carried out, he has also called on the council to put measures in place that will put a stop to illegal dumping in the area.
