Ruth Fahy has been appointed as Galway WFC's chief executive officer.
It is a progressive move by the WNL club with the former Salthill Devon, Castlebar Celtic, and Wexford Youths player set to start in the role on September 1.
With Fahy set to design a strategic vision for Galway WFC, chairman Stephen Moran is encouraged about the future. "This is a very exciting development for Galway Women’s FC," Moran says.
"We want to get to the next level and we believe that Ruth can make a massive contribution. We will be the first WNL Club to appoint a full time CEO.
"We currently have teams in national competition at U17, U19 and senior level so this is a really interesting time. It is important that we continue to bring through players to a senior side that can compete seriously at national level."
Fahy, who will step away from the first team squad, is eager to make an impact. "Galway WFC has always been a side that has had enormous potential and now the time is right to capitalise on that," Fahy says. "This appointment is a hugely progressive step and an indication of the club's ambitions both and off the pitch.
"Women's football continues to evolve at a rapid rate. As standards rise on the pitch, so too do demands off it. In order for our players and coaching staff to compete at the top level, they need the right support structures in place. Massive efforts have been put in by club personnel over the past decade and we now need to elevate our club structures to the next level to truly reap the benefits of this work.
"I have no qualms about the challenges that we will face as we work towards a new club vision, but I'm not afraid to do things differently where needs be.
"I believe in the talent we have in Galway and know that, with the right systems and strategic plan in place, we can achieve something special with this club."
