United underage teams impress on national stage

Four Galway United and two Galway WFC teams were in action

It was a satisfactory weekend for Galway United's underage teams in national competition.

Brendan O'Connor's United U19 side proved too strong for Cork City, triumphing 3-0 in Maree on Sunday with Charlie Concannon, Kody McCann, and Mikey McCullagh registering goals.

At East United on Saturday, Martin Devlin's U17s enjoyed a Mark Farren Cup penalty shootout success over Bohemians. A tight game ended scoreless with United eventually advancing following a dramatic finish.

Donnacha Sammon scored twice for Anthony O'Neill's U15 outfit, who continue to make progress. United have not lost at this level since the opening weekend of the campaign, winning their last three matches in the league.

Xavi Vazquez's talented U14s were too good for Athlone Town as Eoin Hannon (4 ), Conor Murphy, Zach Lawless, and Steven Jennings all netted.

Phil Trill's Galway WFC U19s defeated Cork City 5-2 in Mayfield on Sunday.

Anna Fahey clipped her second hat-trick of the campaign to make it nine for the season, while Saoirse Healey and Aoibhinn Donnelly contributed goals.

The promising Isabelle Fitzpatrick struck twice for the U17s with Ciara Coen also on target in a 3-3 draw against Sligo Rovers.
