HOUSEPLANTS, the exciting duo of Bell X1’s Paul Noonan and electro artist Daithí, and Jape, the solo project of The Redneck Manifesto’s Richie Egan, play The Grand Auld Stretch at Nimmo’s Pier this week.
HousePlants plays tomorrow, Friday August 20, while Jape plays on Saturday August 21. The shows, organised by the Róisín Dubh, take place on Nimmo’s Pier.

HousePlants, the duo of composer/producer Daithí, and Bell X1’s Paul Noonan, will release their debut album, Dry Goods, on September 17.
Already, three singles from the album have been released - ‘What’s With All The Pine?’, ‘Companero’, and last month’s ‘Window Pane’. The collaboration arose following Noonan providing vocals on Daithí’s 2019 track ‘Take The Wheel’. Noonan got in touch with the producer again and they “began trading ideas...and make music to blow the cobwebs off, something that we could imagine playing at a 2am festival slot.”
The track listing for Dry Goods is ‘What's With All The Pine?’, ‘Window Pane’, ‘Companero’ - inspired by the celebrations as the results of the 2015 marriage equality referendum were coming in, ‘No Stoppin’ Me’, ‘Mannequin’, ‘Ringing In My Ears’, ‘Burning’, ‘Reveller’, and ‘Wait!’, and Galway will be treated to all these songs at the Nimmo’s Pier show.
Jape
Jape first came to attention in 2003/4 when his second album, The Monkey’s In The Zoo Have More Fun Than Me, really struck a chord with Irish indie fans. The opening track on that album, ‘Floating’, caught the attention of The Raconteurs’ Brendan Benson in 2008 who played it in his DJ sets and covered the song live.
Jape became the first act to win the Choice Music Prize for Best Irish Album twice: first for 2008’s Ritual and in 2012 for the electronic Ocean Of Frequency. Of the latter album, the NME said, ““….blending guitars and synthetic beats to great effect. He’s probably bored of being called the Irish Beck, so we won’t. Instead, let’s just say no-one has done this type of thing as well since… well, you get the picture.”
Both shows start at 9pm and will follow Covid19 guidelines. The event is seated. Tickets are available via https://roisindubh.net and will be sold in pods of four and six.
