Impressive Peamount overpower Galway WFC

Peamount triumphed at Eamonn Deacy Park on Saturday

WNL standard bearers Peamount United, prompted by the splendid Stephanie Roche, proved too strong for Galway WFC at Eamonn Deacy Park on Saturday afternoon.

Roche struck twice for the visitors, while Aine O’Gorman also scored for Peamount, who lead an exciting title race with one round of fixtures remaining.

Several teenagers in Stephen Lally’s improving squad continue to acquire experience with goalkeeper Hannah Walsh, Therese Kinnevey, Shauna Brennan, Nicole McNamara, Kate Slevin, and Anna Fahey all featuring in the game.

Galway WFC return to action on August 21 with a home fixture against Cork City, while Bohemians visit the west seven days later.

The following weekend Galway WFC will be involved in an FAI Cup quarter-final with Lally’s team eager to make an impact in that competition.

It has been a busy stint for Galway, who suffered defeats against the top two, Shelbourne and Peamount, either side of a morale boosting success over Athlone Town.

A source of encouragement is the development of so many talented emerging players from the region, but a promising Galway outfit will now want to finish the campaign strongly.
