Works begins on widening entrance to Ballyloughane Beach

Cllr Terry O’Flaherty calls on council to remove weeds throughout the area, not just at the entrance

Works began this week to widen the entrance to Ballyloughane Beach and to remove weeds and bushes that were obstructing views from oncoming traffic.

The Galway City Council is carrying out the works at the road entering the beach, which will involve a barrier being moved about 10 metres, as well as the removal of weeds in the vicinity.

The works have been welcomed by Independent Galway City East councillor, Terry O’Flaherty [pictured]. However, she said weeds need to be removed throughout the area, and not just at the entrance. She has contacted the council, asking it to carry out the works.

“Both the residents and users of this facility are annoyed that it’s now into the month of August and the ugly weeds have not been removed,” she said. “While I understand the combined effects of Covid-19 and the shortage of staff in the parks department have delayed a lot of work they normally do, every effort should be made to remove the weeds as they look very unsightly in this area which is used on a daily basis.”
