CEOL AN tSamhraidh, a series of live music events taking place across County Galway, begins this weekend, with shows in Ballyglunin and Corr na Móna for audiences of 200 people.
The opening shows take place tomorrow, Friday August 13, and continue into Saturday 14 and Sunday 15. The shows are part of the Government’s Local Live Performance Programming Scheme, and are in association with the Galway County Council arts and tourism office.
Tomorrow’s shows take place at Ballyglunin Railway Station. At 4pm Fuse Collective, a group of local talented young Tuam musicians will perform, while at 8pm, The Raines - Yvonne Tiernan, Ruth Dillon and Juliana Erkkonen - will bring their mix of folk, Americana, and vocal harmonies to the stage. The trio have come to attention with the singles, ‘Bare Feet On Grass’ and ‘Love Is Sublime’.
On Saturday 14 , the music continues at Ballyglunin Station, with Darragh O’Dea and The Delicate Dogs at 4pm, and the acclaimed Galway folk/Americana trio, The Whileaways (Noelie McDonnell, Noriana Kennedy and Nicola Joyce ), at 8pm.
On Sunday 15, Ceol an tSamhraidh moves to Pairc Chorr na Móna. Starting at 6pm, the line-up is Back West, featuring Maureen Browne (fiddle/vocals ), Brendan Browne (accordion ), Lord of the Dance’s Peter Vickers (hand and foot percussion ), and Fabian Joyce (guitar/vocals ); Back the Valley, who are Clonbur musicians Martin Coyne, Barney McCabe, Colm Naughton, Pearse Doherty, and Jamie O’Neill; and Kelly Fitzhenry and friends; with Aindreas de Staic as ‘Fear an Tí’.
Tickets are free but limited and must be booked in advance via Eventbrite. More weekend concerts are planned for later in August and September featuring local musicians.
