DECLAN O’ROURKE, Cathy Davey, Toucan, and Andy Irvine have been added to The Grand Auld Stretch’s already jam-packed bill of events taking place at Nimmo’s Pier.
The Grand Auld Stretch, presented by the Róisín Dubh, the Galway Comedy Festival, and Strange Brew, begins tomorrow, Friday August 13, in a brand new purpose-built outdoor venue of stretch tents to allow shows go ahead regardless of the weather, at the pier where the Corrib meets Galway Bay.
The line-up features a host of leading Irish performers, including Mick Flannery; The Dirty Circus as part of Galway Community Pride; Houseplants (Bell X1’s Paul Noonan and Daithí ); Jape; comedy hosted by Karl Spain; a live recording of the 200th episode of Tom O’Mahony’s Buckshot Podcast live with Gordo Rochford (Those Conspiracy Guys ) and Colin Geddis; and the revival of John Conneely Inc’s much loved Sunday night sessions. While Tommy Tiernan’s shows for August 16 to 21 are sold out, tickets are still available for the above shows. However demand is high and early purchase is advised.
New additions
Since last Thursday’s announcement, two great comedy shows have been added with Karl Spain hosting Kerry’s local gossip, Bernard Casey, and guests on Saturday 14, and the hardest working man in showbiz, Danny O’Brien, and guests on Sunday 15. This week also saw the Róisín announce the final four shows with singer-songwriter Declan O’Rourke; indie-rocker Cathy Davey; funk-pop duo Toucan, and folk legend Andy Irvine.
This series of shows is being made possible with funding from the Live Performance Support Scheme from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
“It wouldn’t be feasible without the support and it’s very much appreciated,” said a spokesperson for the Róisín Dubh, “so thank you to Catherine Martin TD, and all at the department for their help and assistance getting everyone back to work. It’s so good to be back, we can’t wait to welcome you all safely to this outdoor Covid-safe space.”
