CO2 monitoring indoors to curb the spread of Covid-19

Carbon dioxide is generated by the exhaled air from people, air that has been in close contact with lung tissue. Alongside CO2 the exhalation also contains tiny liquid droplets (aerosols ) which can float in the air.

These droplets will contain any virus particles present in the lungs which can stay present in a room for several hours.High CO2 levels in a room mean there is a higher chance of transmission of a virus such as Covid-19 if an infected person is in the room.

Transmission can happen over short distances and a way to help mitigate against the spread of infection can be implemented using CO2 monitors.

CO2 monitors enable continuous monitoring of carbon dioxide concentrations in the air helping to control air quality. When the measured level of carbon dioxide rises above a threshold, an alarm is triggered, and appropriate actions can be taken to increase ventilation.

Fresh air dilutes any contaminant and reduces the exposure to anyone inside.European countries such as Spain and Belgium require mandatory monitoring and display of CO2 levels in public places.

Irish Minister for Education Norma Foley has said that CO2 monitors will be made available to schools preparing for a full return in late August and early September.

Precision Fire and Gas offer a comprehensive range of ( NDIR ) CO2 Monitors which are simple to fit and easy to maintain, and do not require any particular installation or wiring. While it is still important to follow social distancing guidelines, CO2 monitors can offer a precise and cost-effective solution to assist all residential, commercial, schools, offices, restaurants, pubs, gyms, and official buildings to make sure all indoor areas are well ventilated to protect against virus transmission and help reduce heating costs.
