Painting by Numbers Tips

1. Pick a kit that is suitable for your child’s age and ability

Use the filters on Dare to Paint Ireland to find the most appropriate level of difficulty!

2. Give yourself time!

It can be a little tricky to start with and if the kids pick a large or detailed design, the masterpiece will take longer to reveal itself. But once they get going, it will be very straight forward and become addictive. Can you imagine your little ones trepidation with impatience and excitement?

3. Work on the top half of the canvas before the bottom half

Try to keep it clean! Avoid smudging, make them work on the top half of the canvas before moving to the bottom half.

4. Paint the large areas first.

Especially if your kids are getting started. It will leave their hand time to get steady, improve their dexterity and get ready to move on to the small details.

5. Less is more!

When it comes to the paint, less is more: they can always add but it’s difficult to take away!

6. Always keep the paint pots closed when you are not using them.

This way they don’t dry or harden. This also go for your paintbrushes!

7. Leave the light colours until the end.

That way if your child has gone over the lines, he or she or yourself can fix it with white! Also ensure to go over the lighter colours at the end of the project a second time and this will ensure the numbers are completely covered.

8. Leave colours to dry

When they have finished with a colour, leave them dry before they begin another.

9. Enjoy!

Paint by Numbers is the perfect way to start a long term project with the kids or enjoy your piece of quiet while they get in touch with their creative side. Focussing on the little details will also relax hyer-active children.

10. Hang up!

Lucky for you, all Paint by Numbers canvas are already stretched on a wooden frame, so it is ready to hang and brighten up your home.
