Wine of the week – Con Un Par Sauvignon Blanc

Check out Joyce’s new and exclusive wine range from Spain and Portugal, selected by Masters of Wine student Antonia Dominguez from Antonia’s Wines.

Antonia Dominguez was born in Jerez, Spain, famed for its sherry production, and was raised in Ireland. She is a holder of the WSET Level 4 diploma in wines and spirits and is currently a student on the prestigious Masters of Wine programme, the only MW student in Ireland. Her expertise stretches far beyond Spanish wines, extending to all notable wine regions of the world. Under Antonia’s meticulous and quality-orientated selection process, she sources stand-out wines at a range of price points and styles, representing wineries from both undiscovered and classic regions. Her selection is based on offering expressive wines with personality, and on bringing Irish consumers as close as possible to an authentic wine experience.

Sauvignon Blanc is a grape that needs no introduction. It is an extremely popular variety that has enjoyed tremendous success internationally, and for good reason. Making crisp, dry, aromatic, wines all over the world, the flavours can be sharp and laden with a herbaceous, grassy, and green fruit character, of gooseberries, nettles, and occasionally, of elderflower and passionfruit.

Not all good Sauvignon Blanc hails from New Zealand. It is a variety that can be successfully grown in many cool-climate sites globally. Today, these origins include Loire Valley, South Africa, Chile, Argentina, northern Italy, and in this case, the cool, maritime climate of Valencia along the east coast of Spain. Con Un Par is one such wine, selected especially for Joyce’s new wine range. From Bodegas Vicente Gandia, voted Best European Winery in 2018, comes this stunning Sauvignon Blanc. Aromas of lime, freshly-cut grass, and hints of passionfruit all come together in this intensely aromatic bouquet.

Perfect for summer gatherings, Con Un Par can be enjoyed on its own or as an accompaniment to all types of seafood, grilled or roast chicken, and grilled vegetable antipasti.
