New studio space for artists to open in the city

126 Gallery launch GoFundMe campaign for Barton Studios on St Francis Street

BARTON STUDIOS, a new studio space for artists in Galway is set to open on St Francis Street, and a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help equip and run the premises.

Barton Studios has been established by the 126 Artist-Run Gallery & Studios as a ‘satellite studio space’. It will have four studio spaces, a communal computer, private workspace with Wi-Fi, and access to all resources at 126’s main facility.

“We have listened to our members and acknowledge the need now for space to work, spaces that are affordable, secure, and easy to access,” said a spokesperson for 126. “Submissions for the studios are open to current members of 126 only. This recognises the amazing artists and creatives who supported us over the past 16 years.”

Fundraising campaign

126 has set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise €2,000 for the fit-out of the studios, with any additional funds raised subsidizing the rest of 2021 costs for the studios to artists.

“We estimate €1,800 would be required to lower the rent to €50 per week for each artist. This will include all bills, Wi-Fi, cleaning, and hospitality,” the spokesperson said. “All money raised will be used for Barton Studios and a breakdown will be posted on 126gallery.com and made available to donors.”
