The grant assistance scheme for retrofitting houses must be increased given how the cost of materials have “skyrocketed in price” over the last year.
This is the view of Independent Galway East TD, Sean Canney, who is calling on the Government to make the retrofit grants larger.
“The cost of materials such as insulation and timber has skyrocketed and there is a scarce supply of insulation material for construction projects,” he said. “This is driving up the cost of material.”
Dep Canney said the grants available through the SEAI are “not now sufficient or attractive to homeowners”. He said if the Government needs to review the scheme to ensure there is “sufficient uptake” of it, leading to more energy efficient homes.
