On Friday June 25 at 12 noon, Lynch auctioneers held the online digital auction of a beautiful property at Marshallspark, Oranmore. The auction was held through the Offr.io platform which, according to auctioneer Olivia Lynch, “is really powering the online digital revolution” and it proved to be a great success.
All interested parties were registering for the auction for the previous two weeks and right up until the Friday morning of the auction. There was huge interest in this once in a lifetime property, so it was no surprise to Olivia Lynch to see so many registered to bid. Different to the usual way of bidding, the timer clock started at 12 noon and all bidders were ready to begin. It did not take long, approximately 15 minutes, for the first bid to be placed at €550,000, and it just did not stop from there.
For the next 25 minutes, the bids were flying in and going up in increments of €5,000 and €10,000 with the final bid accepted at €970,000, almost 50 per cent above the reserve price. Olivia Lynch was delighted for the vendor and purchaser of the property because “it truly is an amazing property”.
She was pleased to see how people embraced the online platform. “People are getting used to the online platforms now and auctions are no exception," she said. "They are embracing the new norm and it is nice for people to be able to bid from the comfort of their own homes. The pandemic has given us lots of challenges but there are definitely some instances that seem to be working for the better.”
