Mayor Colette Connolly told Monday's Galway City Council meeting that she is 'inundated with complaints' regarding anti-social behaviour.
Eager that a 'number of issues are addressed', Mayor Connolly expressed her concern at the 'takeover of space' in the city. She also informed councillors that she had written to both the Galway City Council CEO and An Garda Síochana.
She also raised the question were city council officials envisaged a continuation of outdoor public space being used in tandem with the phased re-opening of businesses.
Brendan McGrath, Galway City Council chief executive, said that 'the implementation of outdoor dining would be under constant review'. He also responded to queries from councillors regarding businesses in Ravens Terrace and that a meeting would take place shortly.
Regarding the confusion surrounding the consumption of alcohol in public places, Mr McGrath added that he hoped clarity would be provided. "Clearly some complaints are coming in from residents," he said. "The vast majority of businesses are co-operating very well with the Galway City Council."
