A 'sound walk', featuring music, stories, and poems from some 100 children in Galway and Clare, has been launched and will be available until the end of the month.
The Carolan’s Rambles Sound Walk, developed by Katharina Baker, the artistic director of Coole Music & Arts, and Sinead Hayes, a musician and expert on composer Turlough O’Carolan (1670 - 1738 ).
From March 2020, Sinead interacted with young musicians, via Zoom, as they played ‘virtually’ alongside their music teachers and peers from seven groups within Coole Music. The project ‘Carolan’s Rambles’ unfolded through the music played by the young Coole Music musicians and through their artwork, stories, poems, and their own original music compositions.

At the recent launch of the Carolan’s Rambles Sound Walk were (LtoR ) Katharina Baker, artistic director of Coole Music & Arts, with Sinead Hayes, artistic director of Carolan's Rambles.
This led to the creation of a free ‘Geo-located Sound Walk’ - the first one in Ireland to use a newly launched sonic maps software, and which is available up to July 26, along the Gort River Walk, close to the Aldi store. At different points along the walk, people using the sound walk can pause at ‘virtual stages’ where they can listen to young musicians and storytellers.
Those who want to take part are encouraged to bring headphones and a smartphone and hold their camera over the QR code on the Carolan’s Rambles poster or download the App through www.coole-music.com
For those who cannot reach Gort, there are two e-books with the creative responses of Carolan’s Rambles as well as an e-book of 19 original musical compositions composed by children from Coole Music. These are also available free via www.coole-music.com
