Féile Traidphicnic celebrates 10th birthday this weekend

Liam Ó Maonlaí among the musicians to perform at the festival of Irish traditional music and arts, which will be online

LIAM Ó MAONLAÍ of The Hothouse Flowers will be among the musicians performing at Féile Traidphicnic, the An Spidéal based festival of Irish traditional music and arts, which this year takes place online.

The festival, which this year celebrates its 10th birthday, will take place online tomorrow, Friday July 2, Saturday 3, and Sunday 4.

Ó Maonlaí wil be joined by Clare Sands, and the other performers will be Erin McGeown, Seosamh Ó Neachtain, Mairéad Hurley, John Blake with Máire Ní Neachtain, Becky Ní Éallaithe, Megan NicFhionnghaile, Orla Leavy, Plunkett Ó Tuathail, and Cillian MacCába with Oisín Mac Diarmada.

The festival has also recorded a “very special retrospective musical journey spanning five decades” in Tigh Hughes. “The 'Tigh Hughes sessions' will feature the people, the music and the stories which made this pub the iconic venue it became,” says Traidphicnic cathaoirleach, Bridge Barker, “a place where music, culture, tradition, and community collided to make something very special.”

Cumann Drámaíochta Chlub Foghlaimeoirí Gaeilge Chois Fharraige will premiere a new drama, Pop-up Gaeltacht ar an bhFaiche Mór, written by Máirín Mhic Lochlainn.

Other events will include Sárchumhachtai/Superpowers with visual artist Nuala Ní Fhlathúin; Hup an Baile’s Againne; Random Acts Of…; Seoda Áitiúla with Coláiste Chroí Mhuire gan Smál and Coláiste Cholmcille; Tóit Chonán with Fighting Words Chonamara; and Traidmos with the ATMOS Collective.
