There has been a significant decrease in property crime in the first five months of 2021 compared to the same period of the previous year in Galway city.
Figures released at Monday's Joint Policing Committee showed that 48 burglaries had been reported in 2021 - a 52 per cent decrease on the 101 carried out in 2020.
Thefts in shops were also down to 136 with 240 taking place between January and May last year - a difference of 43 per cent.
Recorded thefts from vehicles are down 23 per cent from 96 last year with 74 in the first five months of 2021.
