Higgins appointed Peace Commissioner for Galway and surrounding counties

City councillor follows in grandfather’s footsteps in holding this honorary position

A city councillor has been appointed Peace Commissioner to serve the city and county of Galway, as well as surrounding counties.

Fine Gael Galway City West councillor, Clodagh Higgins, was appointed by the Minister of State at the Department of Justice, James Browne. The appointment is an honorary, unpaid position and consists of taking statutory declarations, witnessing documents, and signing certificates and orders.

“I am honoured and privileged to accept this position,” said Cllr Higgins. “My appointment will enhance the work that I do in my community. My grandfather was also a Peace Commissioner, and I am proud to be following in his footsteps.”
