Waweru's goal earns United victory

Conor McCormack was hugely impressive for John Caulfield's charges

GALWAY UNITED 1 CABINTEELY 0

Wilson Waweru's 37th minute goal ensured Galway United claimed another crucical SSE Airtricity League first division win over Cabinteely at Eamonn Deacy Park.

Before the game John Caulfield stressed the importance of stitching consecutive victories together so the 100 passionate United supporters left the Corribside venue heartened.

This was a solid display from Caulfield's charges, who were prompted by Conor McCormack's midfield craft. The United skipper controlled the contest impressively with Maurice Nugent and Killian Brouder sound defensively.

Waweru pounced in the opening period to steer United in front with an assured finish.

Cabinteely improved for a spell in the third quarter, but United remained defiant. McCormack provided the leadership as United closed out the deal with the minimum of fuss.

Next on the agenda is a trip to the Markets Field next Friday for a clash with Treaty United. Another tough test awaits.
