Dominick Street Upper will be the latest street to see trial measures put in place to facilitate outdoor dining.
The breakthrough emerged after a series of tests were implemented to ascertain how easily blue light services will be able to access the area in the event of an emergency.
On Wednesday, the Galway City Council confirmed that following discussions with the HSE, An Garda Síochána and Galway Fire and Rescue Service, outdoor dining can be implemented in the area.

Trial measures introduced in areas such as William Street West, Woodquay, Middle Street, Raven’s Terrace and Salthill have been in place for almost a week since the re-opening of outdoor dining on June 7 and have allowed for residents and visitors to safely and comfortably dine, enjoy and spend time in the public realm.
It has now been confirmed that Dominick Street Upper (L-5103 ) will also be closed from Dominick Street Lower (L-5102 ) to William Street West (L-5113 ) every evening from 6pm to 11pm, from Friday June 18 to Thursday September 30. Alterations may be made in the coming weeks, if necessary, to deal with any problems that may arise.

“A range of safety tests with the blue light services have been carried out in advance of the measures being put in place to ensure that access remains available to emergency vehicles at all times,” the City Council statement added.
“Like with all measures introduced to date, this will be assessed throughout the summer and alterations made as appropriate to respond to concerns and issues that may arise and adjustments will be made, if required,” the Council concluded.
