Pharmacies partake in vaccine rollout

The next phase of the national Covid-19 vaccine rollout began this week with pharmacies across the country participating in the massive effort to administer the Covid-19 vaccines as quickly as possible.

More than 800 participating pharmacies have received delivery of 50,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Who qualifies

The first recipients of the J&J vaccine will be available for anyone over the age of 50 who has not already been vaccinated, whether or not they registered on the HSE portal.

How to register

The registration for the pharmacy vaccines is different to the current HSE portal used by the vast majority of the general public.

Instead of registering online, you need to call your local pharmacy to book an appointment.

A list of participating pharmacies can be found on the HSE’s website.

In Galway City, Matt O’Flaherty Chemists is offering the vaccination service at its pharmacies in William Street, Barna, Moycullen, and at a designated vaccination centre in the Galway Shopping Centre.

To register for an appointment phone 087 1993336.

Once you have booked and arrived at a Matt O’Flaherty pharmacy, you will be taken to a separate consultation room.

Due to the very slight chance of serious side effects, people will have to wait for 15 minutes after receiving the vaccine so they can be monitored.

Johnson & Johnson is a one-dose vaccine so there is need to return in four to eight weeks for a second dose.
