The Community Monuments Fund is aimed at enabling conservation works to be carried out on archaeological monuments which are deemed to be significant and in need of urgent support. The funding has been welcomed by Minister for State at the Department of Transport, Hildegarde Naughton.
“It is important to pay respect to our heritage,” she said. “The history of a community contributes to its personality. Galway would just not be Galway without monuments like the Spanish Arch.”
